Calligraphy Workshop with Laura Hooper
As long time fans of Laura Hooper's incredible calligraphy, when our sweet friend Janie Medley of JM Flora Design approached us to style Laura's Richmond workshop at Paisley & Jade, we couldn't say yes fast enough. As the dream team of vendors came together, we crafted our design to play off of the bright white features of Paisley & Jade's showroom, & use the gorgeous natural light that Rachel May Photography captures so incredibly well in her images.
With the clean, white showroom as our canvas, we knew Janie's perfectly crafted florals would bring the pops of color that our tablescapes & sweets display needed. The tall walls, however, were a new challenge for us to tackle. To add the dimension & color that we needed, we handcrafted about 15 giant paper flowers, approximately 3 ft. in diameter. Our enormous poppies, roses & anemones were just the right touch to transform the showroom, & we were delighted by the "I feel like Alice in Wonderland!" comments we heard all over the room as guests arrived.
Always a bonus to working in Paisley and Jade’s showroom is their vast collection of vintage rentals - They provided milk glass vessels, beautiful farm tables, mismatched white chairs for each guest, tiered tables to showcase delicious treats, and anything else we requested, they seemed to have on hand. Our sweets table included delicate pink and peach meringues, chocolate coated marshmallow crisps and rainbow cake pops from Candy Valley Cake Company, completed by more tasty sweets and candies from Sweet Spot. Laura’s cocktail napkins and drink stirrers added a darling touch of her exquisite calligraphy to the sweets corner.
Flavored Pellegrinos with kraft paper straws graced each table setting, alongside a placemat, personalized for each attendee, and a gorgeous Laura Hooper Calligraphy tote bag. JM Floral Design’s array of bud vases lined the tables, showcasing a mix of zinnias and ranunculus, whose vibrant colors paired perfectly with the giant flowers that we created in paper form. The final touch was our photobooth corner, where workshop guests could pose with two of the paper flowers under Janie’s stunning, fresh floral wreath chandeliers. These stunning chandeliers featured seeded eucalyptus and silver dollar eucalyptus and topped with the zinnias and ranunculus.
We were honored to welcome Laura and SO grateful to Rachel for so perfectly capturing every detail. It was a truly whimsical workshop experience for all who attended!
